Part 1: Manoeuvres
1 ball per player.
Divide into 3 groups, starting in shaded areas. Players dribble the ball around the area.
After 25 seconds, coach says 'GO' and the players sprint with their ball to the next area.
Repeat the exercise for full 2 rotations and then repeat in the opposite direction.
COACHING POINTS
Stick on the ball, head up for vision, top hand works. Keep feet moving, strong body position.
Part 2: Eliminations
Players work in pairs, 1 ball per player.
Each player starts on opposite sides of the box.
Mirroring - blue player leads and red follows .
Both players dribble the ball while keeping their feet moving.
Players have to remain on opposite sides of the box, so when leading player carries to a different side of the box, the following player is required to reposition to the opposite side at speed.
Coach times 1-minute and then rotate the leader. Repeat twice.
COACHING POINTS
Stick on the ball, head up for vision, top hand works. Keep feet moving, focus on speed.
Part 3: Connections
2 players on each cone.
1st player on each cone dribbles ball towards red cone.
When players reach red cone, make 3 passes with player waiting on orange cone and follow last pass.
As player on orange cone receives 3rd pass, they carries the ball continuing the exercise.
Score 1 point each time a player reaches an orange cone.
Coach times 3-minutes. Repeat twice.
COACHING POINTS
Stick on the ball, spatial awareness, expect pass back. Strong body position, keep feet moving, keep moving forward.
Part 4: Small Group Gameplay
1 v 1 Reaction.
2 players start on diagonal cones (1 defender with ball, 1 attacker without ball).
Defender passes ball into the field which the attacker runs to receive and score in goal A. Defender runs around cone and chases down the attacker.
When attacker crosses the middle line with the ball, they can change direction and score in any goal.
If defender wins the ball, they can score in any goal.
Battles last 30 seconds or until goal is scored after which opposite players play immediately.
COACHING POINTS
Drive into space, change angles. Keep body between ball and defender, awareness of where they are. React quickly, drive aggressively, quick decision-making.
